Hi Stalker! Sylvie Truong (Australian name), lotterite (nickname), Trương Thúy Ngân (her name in Vietnamese with accents), Truong Thuy Ngan (in Vietnamese without accent), Thuy Ngan Truong (first name and last name in Western style),etc... Whatever you call her, she is still my girl now and always. Well, she is actually my teacher, my poet, my econalist (an economist and a journalist at the same time), my many-things, my everything! • People are greedy. I’m greedy TOO

Oh, today when I read the news about Google new DNS related service I laughed at myself realizing that people are greedy, the engineers at Google Inc. are greedy and hell yeah, I’m fcuking greedy too! If you haven’t read the other (older) entry about Google yet, you should take a look now (http://blog.daohoangson.com/post/225943179/google-sickness)

Well, let me summarize a little bit. The goal of Google is to make the internet faster and many people said that they (Google people) make the internet faster to help users do search in their engine faster (which generates revenue through ads/sponsored links) and users can find more useful information faster so users can visit other websites faster (which once again, generates revenue for Google itself since many many many many websites implemented Google advertising services). And then Google now involves in Mobile market (with Android mobile operating system), it’s a little different at first but actually, people now use internet-enabled mobiles more and more to read news, play games, purchase/listen music, etc. The investment which runs into mobile industry is raising day by day with new startups. So… Google wants to make internet work better on mobile devices to make maps display faster (which generates revenue for Google when it attaches local store information in the map for example), emails load faster (revenue again with ads/sponsored links), and so on… [I don’t talk about rumors but you should know that maybe a Google phone will join the market soon.] Google even pushes things further with a PC operating system called ChromeOS which targets netbook (small laptop which is good at accessing internet), from testers reviews, this operating system is just a browser (Chrome browser, also a product of Google) with battery indicator. LOL.

Talking about Google’s services for normal users, we have a long list (the full list of Google’s services can be found here):

    1. Search with Google Search. The largest search engine at this time. Including searching functionality for images, videos, blogs, news, books, etc [wicked sick - there are so many of them]
    2. Email with Gmail (a pioneer at it’s launch in 2004 with AJAX technology, POP3 support and large storage)
    3. Blog with Blogger (acquired from other company)
    4. Photo sharing with Picasa (acquired from other company, introduced both a web version and a desktop version for both Windows, Mac and Linux)
    5. Video sharing with Youtube (acquired from other company, actually, Google has it owned Google Video)
    6. Organization with Google Calendar
    7. Collaboration with Google Docs
    8. Linguistic services including Google Translate (allow sentences translation or whole webpage translation, work like a translation proxy) and Google Dictionary (works much like using “define” in search query but it’s better in come cases when the definition even includes images, thanks to @xuanhuy238 for the tip)
    9. Feed reading with Google Reader and feed publishing with Feed Burner (acquired from other company)
    10. Social networking with Orkut (this social networking is dominant in Brazil). Accompany in the social field is Friend Connect (working much like Facebook Connect, has just added Twitter integration a few days ago while Yahoo! adopted Facebook Connect no longer before)
    11. Manage and use mobile more effectively with Google Voice (acquired from other company, currently in beta and only works in US, allow users to use one single Google-based phone number to route to other phone numbers with conditions, schedule, etc. It also allows voice message transcribe, archive, history, logging, etc. In conclusion, this product is very cool and I would love to give it a try if I have chance)
    12. Oh, how can I forgot Google Wave? The new collaboration platform which has been trending in Twitter for over 2 months and caused a lot of confusion to testers (note that testers are all tech-savvy people). As this product is still in beta, it’s interesting to see how it will grow up, soon

So, you see, every aspects in our life, Google has something for us to use. And to people in Vietnam, we are being blocked from Facebook, Google released it new Google Public DNS service! Oh, I was just kidding! Of course Google open this service not only for Vietnamese people but for it’s goal: fasten the Internet. With amazingly-easy-to-remember IP address like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and really-fast response (around 50ms from Vietnam, FPT connection), many people will choose Google’s DNS service instead of OpenDNS’s (the IPs are 208.66.222.222 and 208.66.220.220)

Well, many people talk about Google will soon become evil but I do not really care until the next acts from Google. Up to now, they are just trying to generate as much revenue as possible and they are doing very well (I believe so). They just want to make more revenue. We have the right to be greedy, right? If it is fast, we want it faster. If it is long, I want it longer. If it is close, I want it closer. Hell yeah!

    *Don’t get me wrong, hey!*

  • I’m sick of Google now, honestly!

The title is true, absolutely true! I’m sick of Google now. You know why? Because they are too awesome! OMFGWTFBBQCHIXWINGS (this is a new phrase which I learnt a few days ago). To find out about (a tiny little part of) Google’s awesomeness (I checked this word in… Google, it’s correct), please read this entry and follow the attached links:

    1. The first one is a TechCrunch article about the new Google Navigation application. A little note here: other companies sell navigation application but Google gives this application for FREE!!!! And as you read the article, even if Google charged users for this application, it would still “win hands down” because there are many many advance features in this application. Okie, here is the link: http://bit.ly/17J34q
    2. The second one is a website called “The Data Liberation Front”. Here is the description on their website: “The Data Liberation Front is an engineering team at Google whose singular goal is to make it easier for users to move their data in and out of Google products.  We do this because we believe that you should be able to export any data that you create in (or import into) a product.  We help and consult other engineering teams within Google on how to “liberate” their products”. Their recent achievement is the new feature in Google Docs which allows users to download several documents at a time, in a zipped file (just a month ago, when I wanted to download files from Google Docs, I had to download once file at a time, it was painful). This team has a lot of works to do but they are really cool, don’t you think? Visit their website: http://bit.ly/3hdmKR
    3. The third one (and the last one for today) is an article from Mashable which broke the news about Los Angeles goes Google for $7.2 million. You should know that Google’s launching a campaign called “Go Google”. It’s mission is encourage companies to use Google Apps for email, document, schedule, etc… And this deal with Los Angeles is definitely a win-win! I believe there will be more and more giant organizations/companies go Google in the near future. Read the article here: http://bit.ly/4yi4Aw

Okie. That’s enough for today. I’m sick of Google now but now I have to explore what’s new in Google Wave. Oops, Google again! @#$%

Final note: For those who don’t know what is Google Wave, try to… ask Google at their homepage: http://google.com

Last note (I promise): Oh, I’m sick of myself toooo
